She doesn't understand her at all, doesn't recognize her as her beloved son and is terrified of the genes of her daughter-in-law, who was "just" a saleswoman. Vera prefers to escape into her own world, where she doesn't hear her grandmother's lamentations, ponders good and evil, and her balls become Spanish nobles...
